Question Everything, Fear Nothing.
The greatest source of freedom and power for all mankind is our ability to question. Knowing the power of questions, authoritarian regimes throughout history have tried to stamp out freedom by instilling fear into the hearts of people to the extent they stop questioning and simply surrender.
It’s based on this knowledge, our founding fathers gifted each American citizen with the First Amendment of the United States Constitution:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” (source)
In better times, the free press existed to counter authoritarian rule by sharing the thoughts, ideas and questions of the people they spoke for. However, we now live in a time where the lines between media conglomerates and governments are so thin, the average person can hardly tell the difference between the two.
In order for our democracy to remain strong and intact, the independent free press must live on to represent the views and concerns of the diverse communities peppered across our great country.
One of those communities is Alief, “The friendliest, most diverse community in Houston, TX.” We are nearly 100,000 strong and are proud to be one of the most culturally diverse towns not just in Houston, but in all of America.
To represent the views of our diverse population fairly, we can’t pick sides. The side we pick is humanity and truth; therefore we are committed to questioning everything without bias and prejudice. And when we find answers, even if they are inconvenient truths to some, we will share the news fearlessly.
The Alief Post print and its online edition, www.aliefpost.com; was founded in the winter of 2011 by Waqas Syed a 30+ year resident of Alief, TX. After visiting St. John’s Canada, a town of 100,000 people, Waqas saw the potential in Alief.
Alief also has close to 100,000 people and once maintained a community news paper called the Advocate.
With an established online readership that not only includes Alief, but 40 countries worldwide, this little community paper has quite a reach. Due to its international popularity, we have contracted 70 writers who are on the ground in places like Syria, Guatemala, Angola, U.K, China and a host of other countries providing you with breaking news and in depth coverage from the local perspective.
The result is a truly international community paper that is as diverse as the community of Alief.
